Blow moulding (or moulding) is a method of forming and joining hollow plastic parts. It is also used in the production of glass bottles and hollow shapes.
The three main types of blow moulding are extrusion blow moulding, injection blow moulding, and injection stretch blow moulding.
The blow moulding process begins with the plastic being softened by heating and shaped into a parison or, in the case of injection and injection stretch blow moulding (ISB), a preform. The parison is a plastic tube with a hole in one end that allows compressed air to pass through.
The parison is then clamped into a mould and blown with air. The air pressure then pushes the plastic out to fit the mould.
